Ceremony & officiant services

Additional services

Ceremony for the moments that come before, after, and beyond the wedding day.

A wedding is one day inside a much longer life. The ceremonies on this page mark the rest of it. The arrivals, the goodbyes, the beginnings that never come with a rehearsal dinner.

Every ceremony is written from scratch for the people who will be in the room. Nothing is pulled from a binder. I officiate as a non-denominational interfaith minister, which means a ceremony can hold whatever scripture, poetry, ritual, language, or silence matters to your family, and can leave out whatever does not.

Ceremonies of ending and remembrance

Funerals, Memorials, and Celebrations of Life

When a family has no clergy of their own, the service too often ends up in the hands of someone who never knew the person. I sit with you first, listen to the stories, and build the service around the life that was actually lived. Available at funeral homes, graveside, at home, or anywhere that held meaning.

I also lead scattering ceremonies and delayed memorials, held months or years later, for families who were not ready at the time.

Ceremonies of Release

For the end of a marriage or a long partnership, particularly when there are children who need to watch the adults close something with dignity. Also for other endings that deserve marking: leaving a home, closing a business, finishing a long chapter of work.

Pet Memorials

A short, sincere service for an animal who was family. Held at home, in a yard, or at the place they loved most.

Ceremonies of beginning and belonging

Baby Namings, Dedications, and Welcoming Ceremonies

A ceremony to name a child, honor the people who will help raise them, and say the hopes out loud. Written for families of one faith, more than one faith, or none. Godparents, guideparents, and chosen family all have a place in the circle.

Adoption Finalization Ceremonies

Finalization in court is a legal act, and a brief one. A ceremony gives the day the weight it deserves. Held at home, at a venue, or immediately following the courthouse, with room to honor a child's first family alongside the family being formed.

Name Change and Gender Affirmation Ceremonies

A ceremony to speak a name aloud in front of the people who will use it. Built with you and only with you, at whatever scale feels safe, from a room of two to a room of a hundred. Your history is honored without being made the subject.

House, Business, and Space Blessings

A blessing for a first home, a new office, a studio, a storefront, or a space whose history deserves acknowledgment before new work begins. Common at closings, openings, groundbreakings, and ribbon cuttings.

Ceremonies for couples beyond the wedding

Vow Renewals and Anniversary Blessings

For five years, twenty-five, or fifty. For couples who eloped and never had the day they wanted. For couples who married before the law recognized them and want a ceremony that finally does. The vows are yours. The ceremony is built around what you have actually carried together.

Commitment Ceremonies

A complete ceremony for couples not seeking a marriage license, whether by choice, circumstance, or design. Same care, same craft, no paperwork.

Premarital Preparation

Structured conversation before the wedding, offered as preparation and education rather than therapy. Sessions cover money, family, conflict, division of labor, and the agreements most couples assume they have already made. Available on its own or alongside a ceremony.

Ritual, language, and public ceremony

Cultural and Interfaith Ritual

Handfasting, jumping the broom, unity rituals, blessings in more than one language, and ceremonies that carry two traditions without subordinating either. If a ritual belongs to your family, it belongs in the ceremony, and I will do the work to get it right.

Invocations and Benedictions

Opening and closing words for graduations, banquets, conferences, dedications, award ceremonies, and civic gatherings. Written to include every person in the room, which is harder than it sounds and is the entire point.

Ceremony, Vow, and Tribute Writing

For people who already have an officiant, or who have been asked to speak and have no idea where to begin. I write ceremony scripts, vows, eulogies, tributes, and toasts, working from a single conversation and the details only you know.

This work is done remotely and is available anywhere.

How I work

  • In person throughout the Washington, DC region and within a four-hour drive. Writing services are available anywhere.
  • Every ceremony begins with a conversation, not a contract. If I am not the right person for what you need, I will say so and point you toward someone who is.
  • LGBTQIA+ couples and families, interfaith and intercultural families, blended families, and families with no faith tradition are welcome here without qualification.

Pricing & booking

Pricing varies by ceremony type, travel distance, and how much writing is involved. Full pricing is shared in our first conversation, before anything is signed.

Tell me who the ceremony is for, roughly when, and roughly where. That is enough to start.
